Drugs. How much would you pay for a drug that blast you into stratosphere? A heavenly high, unrivalled by sex, love or money? How much would you pay for a pill that had no come-down, barring gently rung ears? What amount would you give to pop a pill so powerful it moves not only you, but your entire generation? $1000? $10000? More? Try about $180.

Live Review: Dead Letter Circus (Hysteria)

DLC’s Hi-Fi Bar gig in Melbourne might've been the ultimate gathering of Dead Letter Circus faithful. After lights went down? Invasion of the n00bs. When The Catalyst Fire dropped, DLC charmed the mainstream. New fans aplenty climbed aboard DLC’s crystal starship. Are they screeching toward Aussie rock stardom's top tier? If it wasn’t euthanised, Hey Hey, It's Saturday! would’ve booked them for a two-song spot. Australia’s Guy Smiley, Daryl Somers, would’ve introduced them with requisite clueless enthusiasm. That’s one heck of a big fucking deal.

Soundwave '13: Melbourne Soundwave 2013 (TheVine)

In hip Gen Y heartland Flemington (well, maybe in the bowels of one's heartland) the transition of metal and punk cornered into tearing up dingy graffiti-trashed clubs to the mainstream is complete. The working-class rebellion is over.

The two-pronged attack from political correctness and economic rationalism starved the subculture of oxygen, corralling it into libidinous day-long expressions instead of steadfast lifestyle commitments -- 'til death or follicular necrosis. Mohawked metalheads sip lattes in cramped wood-panelled cafes incongruously named "Pepper" and "Monkey Tricycle" alongside urban professionals and retired graphic designers. Smartphones replace zippo lighters as rock show accoutrement du jour. The Big Day Out, as Andrew noted in his Brisbane review is no longer the heavy fans' festival.
